Privacy Policy

Last updated: 10 October 2026

Book Check Genie ("we", "us") is operated by Clyde Coetzer. This policy explains what personal data we collect, who processes it, and how you can remove it.

What we store

  • Manuscripts: the files you upload for checking.
  • Reports: the issues we find, including short quoted passages from your manuscript.
  • Story information: details we extract to check continuity, such as character facts, timeline events, plot threads and character relationships.
  • Account details: your email address and sign-in data.
  • Billing records: your plan, credits and purchase history. Card details are handled by our payment provider; we never see them.
  • Usage and abuse prevention: pages visited, and a one-way scrambled (hashed) version of your network address to limit free sample checks — never the address itself.
  • Support conversations: messages you send through our chat widget.

Who processes your manuscript

To run checks, your manuscript text is sent to Anthropic through its Claude API. Anthropic's published commercial terms state that API inputs and outputs are automatically deleted from its systems within 30 days, except where content is flagged under its usage policy (kept for up to 2 years) or where the law requires longer retention. Anthropic also publishes that API data is not used to train its models without express permission. These are Anthropic's published terms, not a separate guarantee from us.

Where your data is stored and who provides services

  • Supabase — database, sign-in and file storage for your manuscripts, reports and story information.
  • Vercel — hosts the website.
  • Anthropic — analyses manuscript text to produce your report.
  • Resend — sends sign-in links, collaboration invites and service emails.
  • Lemon Squeezy — payments and billing.
  • Google Analytics 4 — site usage analytics.
  • Tawk.to — customer support chat.
  • Cloudflare — email routing for our support and contact addresses.

Some of these providers process data outside the UK, including in the United States.

Inside the app, access to your books and reports is restricted to your own account by row-level security, plus anyone you explicitly invite through Collaboration. The operator and our infrastructure administrators can technically access stored data for support and maintenance. We do not sell your personal data.

Public share links

If you create a share link for a report, anyone with the link can see that report's findings and quoted passages, without signing in, until you revoke it. Share links do not include your full manuscript. To revoke a link, open the report, click Share, and click Revoke next to the link.

Retention and deletion

We keep your data while your account is active. There is no automatic deletion.

  • Deleting a book removes its uploaded manuscript files, its reports and the data linked to it.
  • Deleting your account removes your manuscripts, reports, story information, share links, collaboration access and your login. Billing records are kept in anonymised form, no longer linked to you.

Your choices

  • Delete a book: on your dashboard, click Delete on the book.
  • Revoke a share link: open the report, click Share, then Revoke.
  • Delete your account: open the menu under your email (top right), choose Account settings, and follow the delete steps. Cancel any active subscription with Lemon Squeezy first.
  • Privacy questions or requests: under UK GDPR you can ask to access, correct or delete your personal data. Email support@bookcheckgenie.com.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
